Zambia is largely made up of a highland plateau, which rises in the east. The elevation and water courses that run throughout have formed a diversity of several large swamps, or flats, which are noted for their concentration of wildlife. The country also has numerous national parks, but their emphasis is on tourism rather than preservation.

ABOUT ZAMBIA:

The Republic o fZambia is a democratic republic with a president who is both the chief of state and head of government. Its population is estimated at 11 502.010 comprising more than 70 mainly Bantu-speaking ethnic groups. The current president is His Excellency Rupiah Bezwani Banda who was elected in 2008.

GEOGRAPHY:

Zambia, a landlocked country in south-central Africa, is about one-tenth larger than Texas. It is surrounded by Angola, Zaire, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Namibia. The country is mostly a plateau that rises to 8,000 ft (2,434 m) in the east.

CAPITAL:

Lusaka is the capital with approximately 1 773.300 people. Other main towns include Ndole, Kitwe, Kabwe and Chingola.

LANGUAGES:

English is the official language and is widely spoken throughout as there are about 75 indigenous languages.

CLIMATE:

Due to its relatively high altitude, Zambia's climate is seldom unpleasantly hot. There are three distinct seasons:
a) a cool and dry season from May to August when temperatures vary from around 14 to 26°C during the day a and from 10 to 25°C at night;
b) a hot and dry season from September to November; and
c) a warm and wet season from December to April.

It is important to note that during December to April, many of the safari properties are closed due to the rains and inaccessibility.

Zambia has visa regulations, however these are available upon arrival. It is advisable to check with us before travel as they are subject to change.

DEPARTURE TAX:

Zambian international airport departure tax is USD25 per person and USD8 Domestic departure tax per person (applicable at manned airports only), to be paid in US Dollars (USD) cash on departure.
